Educational Curriculum Transparency

In compliance with Alabama Act #2024-35, and the Parental Right to Know Act, the following is a list of textbooks and instructional materials used in our classrooms.

Parents and guardians have the right to request a detailed summary of instructional materials, including books available for student reading and the class syllabus provided by the teacher. This information can be shared through email, phone, or other electronic means.

Curriculum Access Complaint Process

The state of Alabama has established a process to address concerns regarding curriculum access and instructional materials used in Tuscumbia City Schools.

Request to Review Classroom Curriculum and/or Materials

Parents or guardians of students enrolled in Tuscumbia City Schools may request to review any curriculum or instructional materials associated with their child’s class. Reviews can be conducted electronically or may require an in-person meeting with the teacher. Within 10 days of the request, the teacher will either provide electronic access or arrange an in-person review. Additionally, parents or guardians may request a detailed summary or rationale of the state instructional standards being addressed through the instructional materials.

Issuing a Complaint with the Superintendent

If the teacher does not fulfill the request as outlined, parents or guardians may submit a complaint to the superintendent. Complaint forms are available at the Tuscumbia City Schools Board of Education office.

Escalating the Complaint to the State Superintendent

Should the complaint remain unresolved, it may be forwarded to the State Superintendent of Education through the state’s established curriculum and instruction complaint process.

Annual Reporting Requirements

Tuscumbia City Schools is required to report the number of complaints annually (by September 1) to the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE). Any complaint filed by a parent or guardian will be maintained as an educational record associated with their student.
