Early Years Reading and Math Assessments

The Early Years (EY) assessment systems are to be used by teachers for monitoring the reading and math progress of Grades K-3 students, so that there is a timely adjustment of instruction and intervention for all students. The early assessment systems also assist schools in meeting annual screening and reporting requirements of the Alabama Literacy Act, Section 16-6G-1, et. seq. (Ala. Code 1975) and the Alabama Numeracy Act, Act 2022-249.

Tuscumbia City Schools uses i-Ready as the Early Years Assessment for grades K-5 Reading and Math. The diagnostic assessment is given three times a year (Beginning/Middle/End) and includes routine progress monitoring, literacy tasks, and an early numeracy screener.

Forefront Fractional Reasoning Screener is used to determine mathematical strengths and weaknesses for students in 4th and 5th grades. The assessments target the most essential skills necessary for success in mathematics and are fully aligned with the Alabama Course of Study and includes data collection, reporting, and data visualization tools to support instructional next steps.
