Degrees and Certifications:

University of North Alabama- Masters in Elementary Education with emphasis in Reading, 2007 University of North Alabama- Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, 1992 Sheffield High School Graduate, 1985

Mrs. Sarah Holland

I graduated from Sheffield High School in 1985.  I worked and then managed stores for Hibbett Sporting Goods for seven years, and then I decided to pursue my degree in education.  I graduated from UNA in 1992 and moved to Moulton, Alabama to begin my teaching career. While in Moulton, I taught second grade and met my future husband.  I moved back to Sheffield in 1994 and started teaching at what was called Northside Middle School.  Barry and I married in 1995 and were blessed in 1996 with our son, Brandt. We live in Sheffield with our dog, Elle' Belle and I now have a "gran-furbaby" named Wilson. Brandt graduated from DHS in 2014. He attended Wallace State Community College as a freshman then Dyersburg State Community College in Tennessee as a sophomore.  He earned combined academic and athletic scholarships for which we are very proud. He played baseball for the Lions at the University of North Alabama. Brandt has recently graduated from UNA with a degree in Finance. He is currently "chasing his dream" and playing baseball overseas in Germany and France.

I have spent most of my "free" time supporting Brandt in baseball and traveling to watch him play. In 2019, Brandt lived in Germany March-August and played professional baseball with the Cologne Cardinals. I was fortunate to visit there and several other European countries during that time.  I have a love for travel and truly love spending time with friends and family, some of which live in Wales.  I also enjoy swimming and relaxing by our pool with a good book of my favorite author, Karen Kingsbury. During colder seasons, I enjoy snuggling with my fur babies while reading or simply relaxing. I enjoy attending and supporting Deshler Tiger events and am proud to be a part of the Tuscumbia community and Deshler family.

We are members of Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church (TFUMC) and I have been truly blessed to have had the opportunity to serve others on two mission trips to Honduras.  Our family has been attending our "HOME" church, Sheffield First United Methodist.  I extend an invitation for you to attend  church with us or to visit other local churches. There are many in our area that have very active youth groups. I also encourage you to attend FCS (Fellowship of Christian Students) weekly meetings.

I expect a lot out of my students both academically and socially. I believe with a common respect for/toward others the sky is the limit as to what we will be able to achieve. My goals include everyone feeling/having common respect and feeling/having great success. I am very willing to work with you to reach these goals and the many other goals we will set during the school year. Not only do I intend for you to learn science, I hope you will learn some "life" lessons. My motto is "Do something TODAY that your future self will THANK YOU for."

During the summer of 2014 and 2015 I extended my learning by participating in 2 two-week trainings with AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science, Technology Institution).  I am  very excited that we participate with AMSTI lessons .  AMSTI is an inquiry based, hands-on approach to learning. I have also been participating in workshops to become more familiar with strategies that will better facilitate learning for all students, including those with Dyslexia. I am currently participating in A+ College Ready E3 Science Teacher Training in partnership with the Alabama State Department of Education. I have 28 years of teaching experience yet I am a strong believer that learning is continuous and never ends! I am looking forward to a great year and I hope you are also!
