Tuscumbia City Schools - A Small Town with Rich History

Tuscumbia - small-town America at its best!  A city proud of its inheritance, Tuscumbia, Alabama is steeped in history dating to 1780.  It is the birthplace of Helen Keller, the town's most noted historical figure.

With its rich history and even brighter future, Tuscumbia is a great place to visit or to spend a lifetime!   With a population of over 9,000, the city offers its residents the comfortable atmosphere of a small town, but with a large shopping and industrial area.  Recreational and cultural opportunities and progressive economic base make Tuscumbia one of the most attractive areas in the southeast. Most recently, the Retirement Systems of Alabama brought the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and the Marriott Shoals Hotel and Spa to our area.

Tuscumbia is the county seat of Colbert County, which is in the northwest corner of the state and is strategically located with easy access to major southeast cities.  A regional airport is located three miles east of Tuscumbia in Muscle Shoals.

The school system was established in 1855 and has offered programs and facilities of outstanding quality since its origin.  Higher education is equally represented by Northwest-Shoals Community College, with its main campus adjacent to our city limits.  It is an accredited, two-year community college with over 4,000 students. Five miles north of Tuscumbia is the University of North Alabama, a fully accredited four-year college with over 10,000 students.
