Superintendent

A Message From The Superintendent!

I would like to thank the Tuscumbia City Schools Board of Education for the opportunity to be the Superintendent of Tuscumbia City Schools.  To be honored with this position is a very humbling experience and one that I will be forever grateful to the Board of Education.

I began as a casroom teacher for 14 years, then into school administration.  I have coached multiple sports during my time in education and was fortunate to win a state championship in 2004.  This understanding of building a team has allowed me to be successful in many areas by relying on others and coaching others to be their best.  I am also a former member of the Alabama Army National Guard.  I am married to Mrs. Virginia Black Tate and have four children.  My oldest children both live and work in the Huntsville area and my two youngest children attend Tuscumbia City Schools.  I am also a proud member of First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia, Alabama, and the Tuscumbia Kiwanis Club.  I received my undergrad at Athens State University and my Masters and Education Specialist Degree from The University of North Alabama.

My vision for Tuscumbia City Schools is to continue the great traditions that we have in place and build upon these for future growth.  I desire for the system to grow in both the academic and student populations.  To achieve this growth, we must focus on ensuring that our students are receiving the best education academically and provide opportunities for all students to gain the necessary skills for life after high school.  Working together with the faculties and community stakeholders, we can achieve this vision.

I also believe in hard work, transparency, and communication.  I feel that through these we will achieve the best school system in the state of Alabama and one that brings pride to the City of Tuscumbia.

Again, I would like to say that I am very grateful and humbled for this opportunity.  I look forward to working with each of you to ensure that our students are prepared with the life skills to be successful in both the college and career realms.  We will do this by building the foundation in our early grades and building upon this as the students enter the secondary grades.  With your help, we will prepare our students to be successful in whatever grade they are currently enrolled in.

Sincerely,

Russ Tate
